Overchurch Junior School

Welcome from the Headteacher and Chair of Governors

On behalf of the children, staff and governors I would like to welcome you to the Overchurch Junior School website.

We are extremely proud of our children and their achievements, hopefully you will see a flavour of this as you search through the pages. As you view our website I am sure you will agree Overchurch Junior School is a school that strives to give children the knowledge and skills they need to be ready for high school and to be the best they can be in all areas of the curriculum. Reading is at the heart of our curriculum as we know it is the key to success. As such, we offer a reading rich environment, a beautiful, well-stocked library with a range of fiction, as well as non-fiction based on a range of the best authors. The reading spine will guide you to essential reading. We ensure all children become fluent, confident readers who love to read a range of books.

We understand that the decision about where to entrust the care of your child and their education is extremely important, and we thank you for choosing Overchurch Junior School. We pride ourselves on the nurture and care we provide for our pupils, and that our pupils are happy and enjoy learning, and are part of a vibrant and caring school community. We have high expectations for attendance at Overchurch Junior School.

The prospectus and website are designed to help you to find out lots of information about the school as well as how you can play a key role in ensuring your children get the best out of their time at our school. Our school works very hard with high expectations of all our staff, school governors, children and parents. By working together, we can excel. We have an excellent environment in which to learn academic and creative subjects but also to embed our school values of respect, believe and achieve. We believe that this underpins and supports how we care and nurture all the children in our care.

We know that every day in school counts so we work hard with governors to ensure high levels of attendance through a range of rewards.

We are highly aware of the aspirations you have for your children to do well in school. We all want our children to be happy, safe, resilient, to look after themselves and look after others. The four years children spend with us are some of the most formative years of their lives. We want our children to enjoy a wide range of experiences which bring the curriculum alive and make learning fun. All of our staff work hard to ensure the best possible quality of education for the children in every year group. We believe that all children have a voice to be heard and that their well-being and education lie at the heart of all we do.

At Overchurch Junior School our vision statement is ‘Respect, Believe, Achieve’ and as such, we recognise the importance of a kind, caring attitude to our community in which our families, school staff, school governors and the wider community can work together to support our children in achieving their aspirations. We strive to create an atmosphere where all children and adults feel safe, valued and included. Our aim is for our children to see themselves as successful learners and to have caring responsible attitudes towards themselves and others.

Governors have regular meetings with the Head Teacher and senior leaders, and all Governors are able to maintain close relationships with the school through regular visits. Governors have an important role to play in the Governance and Management of how schools are run. The Governing Body has a range of duties including helping to set the overall strategic direction of Overchurch Junior School. Together, the Governors act as a critical friend to the school ensuring that the school is suitably challenged as well as supported so that ALL the children can achieve the best of their ability.

We wish your child every success and happiness at Overchurch Junior School.
