Coding Vocabulary

Within the computing curriculum at Overchurch Junior School, we aim to provide children with the life-skills that will enable them to become successful and socially responsible citizens in an increasingly digital world. The curriculum is structured in units and taught in blocks coherently. Children learn to be digitally literate-able to use, express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology-at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

In computing we use devices to create, store and manipulate data through the use of the Teach Computing Curriculum with embedded teaching of online safety from Project Evolve.  Our high-quality computing curriculum has been planned to enable children to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, digital literacy and information technology. Children will learn to analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.

The curriculum offers opportunities for children to learn to evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems. At Overchurch Junior School children are taught to be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

Children use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly in line with our RESPECT values.
