When choosing a secondary school, it can often seem like a daunting task for both parents and pupils at the best of times. We understand that this year is a little bit different with Open Evenings being cancelled due to Covid-19 and for this reason, you may be finding the secondary school applications a little more difficult.
Here at Overchurch Junior School, we want to make sure that we are here with you every step of the way when making these important decisions for your child’s next step in their education. Below are some top tips that we believe will help make the choice that little bit easier.
Visit the schools you are considering sending your child/children to where possible- due to Covid-19 this may be
difficult so please make use of the virtual tours which have been linked on our transition to secondary school page.
If you have relatives who attend that school or family friends, speak to them about the school, what has the school offered
Visit their school website, they will have lots of information about the facilities they offer and what learning takes place.
Where possible, arrange a school tour, it is often useful to visit during the school day. Some secondary schools are offering
Discuss with your child their likes and dislikes about schools- an open conversation is important.
Always put the maximum number of choices down when filling out the parental preference form.
